When Permit Is Needed

Over 8'6" wide
Over 14' high
Trailer over 48' long

Special Information Needed
Need a current certificate of insurance on file (minimum coverage is $750,000 combined single limit; can fax a basic certificate to 801-965-4936) overhang

Times Of Movement
1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset 7 days a week.
Loads 10' wide,92' long and legal height may travel 24-7
Travel prohibited on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Pioneer Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas--Friday holiday: no travel from 2pm Thursday to daylight Monday; Monday holiday: travel restricted from 2pm Friday until daylight Tuesday; from 2pm on the day before a holiday to daylight of the day after a holiday when the holiday is other than a “long weekend”.  Also, movements prohibited during days of high traffic volumes,  i.e. hunting season ( Sat. Closest to 10/20)

Requirements for Pilot/Escort Vehicle
General: Wheelbase 95” minimum; Weight 12,000 maximum
Signs: “OVERSIZE LOAD” sign (5’ x 10”) w/ black letters (8” high w/ 1” brush stroke) on yellow background mounted on top of vehicle
Lights: 2 6” or larger amber warning lights mounted 1 on each side of sign or an AAMVA approved amber rotating, oscillating or flashing beacon/light bar mounted on top of the vehicle & visible for 360 degrees
Flags:
Additional equipment: 2-way radio (min. 4 watts) capable of transmitting ½ mile; 24” “STOP”/”SLOW” paddle sign; 9 reflective triangles; 8 burning flares or approved alternative; 3 18” (or larger) orange cones; orange hard hat; orange vest; flashlight w/ minimum 1 1/2” lens  & red or orange cone (min. 9”); height pole (non-conductive material); fire extinguisher; first aid kit; 1 “OVERSIZE LOAD” sign (7’ x 18”); spare tire; tire jack; lug wrench

Requirements for Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operator
Minimum 18 years of age; possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which the driver resides; a certification card will be issued by an authorized Qualified Certification Program (a list of providers can be obtained by calling [801]965-4508); valid for 4 years (initial certification) then 1 additional 4-year cert. may be obtained by mail or online--provide a current MVR (within 30 days).  Current cert. will be honored through expiration date.  Non-resident drivers may operate as a certified driver with another state’s certification provided the course meets the minimum requirements outlined by UDOT.  Currently recognizes cert. from states of WA, NC, CO, OK, & FL.
Must have minimum $750,000 of liability insurance.
